Bye Bye NetroDevil
Bye Bye, NetroDevil.
System updates are soon to come, and this will be the End for this tool, used and abused all over Netropolis. I was given a copy of Netrodevil several months ago, by a player i won't mention couse I am not interested in knowing if he/she was used to use it.
It took me not so long to understand how this script was a complete BS.
For the (few?) ones that never had a copy and often wondered how would be great to have one, I can say that you missed nothing. Everyone can play better and faster without using it.
Now that an attempt to block scripting will disable Netrodevil, we'll wait and see what else will come (it will come for sure, some people seem unable to play without cheating/scripting).
Bye Bye, NetroDevil.
I am one of those that won't miss you for sure.

Omg wow. I wrote NetroDevil YEARS ago... I spent 2 years writing and updating it. After the first year I sold it on Ebay for £50. With free updates (purely for
a beta tester as I didn't play the game myself). When I was finally happy with the program, There wasn't a single bug in it. And it was a perfect way to play
the game... it played the game for you(if you wished). And you made the big important decisions.
However my beta tester, preferred an older less reliable version to the finished product and so never kept, and apparently never gave away the finished
copy. As that one picture in that page, wasn't it.
The finished product could not even be run or accessed without first logging on to a remote server to confirm the user name and password of the user.
Users could then be managed and handled from this server. So it's easy to see why this copy wasn't distributed. As the server was taken down at least 4
years ago.
NetroDevil was originally designed in theory to be put to the owners of Netropolis as a new, faster interface for playing the game. It would massively
decrease bandwidth used by each player. And rapidly speed up game play for each player.
However as it progressed I realised it would be impossible to see the impact on the game that some of the features I wanted to include would have. When
used by Everyone in a fair manner. And so the program slowly changed direction.
I'm not sure which version that is, but the finished product, sent exactly the same packets as the latest internet explorer at the time did to the Netropolis
servers. I used packet sniffers to make sure of this. Meaning if the built in timer was used correctly. It would be impossible to detect in any way at all. So if
that one's code is close (which it should be) I can see why you may have had so many difficulties preventing it's use.
However you do have to see my point that if these things can't be stopped. Maybe they are the way forward? Not anything like the one picture above there.
But some sort of alternative interface perhaps guys?
Anyway my apologies for the 4 years of inconvenience.... But you have to see the funny side... or at least I do. I hadn't heard the word NetroDevil in years,..
until I did a quick search on Google a minute ago and got that page top of the list.
Have to say, At least NetroDevil - Devil's Spawn didn't cause you quite so many problems? (That was the one that could access any company in the
game without a user or pass, just after you updated to Netro2 and allowed multiple companies per account. The one that wasn't distributed at all. And the
one where I emailed the Netro management to inform them of the security flaw. See im not such a bad person....) These are all fond memories of good
times for me.
I'm sorry NetroDevil wasn't completed and distributed to the standards and in the manner, it was originally intended to be. A professional bug free, fast,
efficient alternative interface for the great game I'll always hold dear that is Netropolis.
And I hope the users continue to have many more years of unhindered entertainment from Netro.
You're sincerely,
Leigh (Elwon) Bicknell
P.S. I may sound very proud of my work, and many of you may flame me for this. However I still stand firm that yes I am proud of my work. NetroDevil in
it's completed form was a peice of art. I'm not sure which version has been passed around here, however I recall it was even capable of optimising your
land for you. A program that will automatically buy all free/bombed land whilst you sleep, and then optimise every peice and build based on what other
buildings surrounded it, still sounds impressive to me now. Whilst at the same time automatically securing, keeping safe, putting out fire's. And making
sure you never hero. (If you wish) Along with all it's other capabalities such as txt alerts, viewing any map you want instantly. I could go on forever.
NetroDevil wasn't just a script, as I remember it, but very close to what it was designed for, maybe even a little further than even that. NetroDevil made it
possible to play a browser based game,.. without a browser. It didn't give you the ability to do a few common long drawn out things that you might
sometimes need to do, in just a couple of mins. If you knew how to use it properly, it had the versaility and gave you the ability to do anything and
everything you could possibly ever want to do, In just a few mins.
I could write another script that would bomb/set fire to everything on the map, (Or any other individual action you like for that matter!) and it would take me
just a few hours now.
However It'd take me a very very long time to even come close to anything that was the power command centre that NetroDevil was. So please, flame
away. I'm not proud that it may have damaged netropolis due to it's mis-use. But I stand by my work of art statement.
P.P.S You've no idea how difficult it was to get that fucking thing log into multiple accounts simultanously! If there's 1 Thing I remember most about writting
it, that would be it!
Hi Elwan, nice to meet you.
Your comment is really interesting, so i referred to it into the netropolis unofficial forum that is atm the player board.
I expect that some posts will follow that thread, so feel free to read what people think at this link:
